Google Brings Instant Previews for Search Results

Google has been constantly coming up with innovative features to stay ahead in the search service space. Recently, Google had introduced the Instant Search feature that offered search results along with what you type in the search box. Now Google has gone a step ahead and introduced new Instant Previews. A graphical overview of a search result is shown where in the most relevant part is highlighted in the Instant Preview. Basically, Instant Preview is more of a visual representation  and quick comparison of search results and choosing the best one.

Raj Krishnan, a Google product manager, explained in the blogpost at the official Google blog, "Instant Previews provides a graphic overview of a search result and highlights the most relevant sections, making finding the right page as quick and easy as flipping through a magazine."

Instant Preview of a search result can be used by clicking on the magnifying glass icon next to search results. Just in case the magnifying glass icon doesn't appear in your Google Search results, you can visit http://www.google.com/instantpreviews to try it out.

Once the Instant Previews is activated, you can click on the magnifying glass icon in the Google Search results to launch the page preview snippet. In that page preview snippet, the text call outs would appear highlighting the search term you've been looking for. Keyboard fanatics can view Page Previews using the right arrow key on the keyboard and up or down keys to browse between search results.

Instant Preview saves up your effort of going back and forth between the search result you've clicked on and the list of links shown up in search results.

JR Raphael of PC World did the sneaky job of checking if Instant Preview shows any previews for search results of any raunchy search term blacklisted by Google. And it was found out that Google does NOT block any adult-oriented obscene content in Instant Preview. So beware what you search for and don't go for NSFW (Not Safe For Work) search terms.

Google Instant with infrastructure enhancement was claimed to save up to 5 seconds per search. So how many seconds would an average user spend on viewing the Instant Previews? Certainly you'll save bits of your bandwidth but do you really wish to preview what you are looking for? Leave us a comment and let us know.
